"Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina and the Waves

Today is Blue Monday, the most despessing day of the year. It falls on the first Monday of the last full week of January. And let's face it, today's weather forecast doesn't exactly help.

You can read more about Blue Monday here, and what to do about it. However, at Patch we think we have a cure for Blue Monday: Katrina and the Waves.

OK, maybe "Walking on Sunshine" isn't the happiest sounding song the world (but it's close), and if you just broke up with your sweetheart, you might not feel like tapping your feet.

But for everyone else, avoid Blue Monday—watch the video.

Any Monday can be "blue", as can Tuesday, Wednesday, etc, if one chooses it to be. I am as happy today as I was yesterday and will be tomorrow! Life in RSM is pretty darn good! Just take a good look around at the beauty of God's creation, our lovely city and the great folks who live here. Now, I know there are many people who suffer from depression who are blue everyday and for those folks I wish them well and good medical care. Everyday I pray for our city and its' inhabitants. Feeling a little down? Take a walk around the lake; meet your friends and neighbors. Hard to stay "blue" doing that. I pray for everyone in RSM to have a healthy, happy, safe week! BTW - the grayness of the video might not lift the "blues" for someone watching. Just sayin'..............

Do pro ballplayers often get blue?

On the one hand, what with all that natural testosterone (and possibly other performance enhancing substances) surging around inside them, there's gotta be some blowback.

On the other hand, "suck it up" is part of the athlete's code.

Wish there was a sportswriter around here to settle it for us...

Yes, Pan, ballplayers get blue. They feel depressed that they're not appreciated, either by fans, teammates or management. They feel depressed that others who are clearly inferior are making more money. They feel depressed that they are not living up to their contract. They feel depressed that they can't get everything that they want. They feel depressed over many of the same things the rest of us get depressed over because like the rest of us, no matter how far removed they are from the real world, they face the same daily challenges but in a different form: they have kids they can't see because they're on the road, a wife they have to keep satisfied (and hopefully don't cheat on), parents who get older. The difference between them and us, often, is that they have money to throw at the problem which may or may not solve it. But, in baseball in particular, they don't cry.

Was I feeling down on "Blue Monday"? Nope! Loved the rain and I'm with Sharon Thompson (above post). Life here in RSM is pretty great! We've got it so much better than most other cities in the world. We've got a lot to be happy about here.
