Mission Viejo Bus Stops to Display Atheist Ads

Soon Mission Viejo's bus stops will display ads questioning the Bible.

Soon atheists will be represented on Mission Viejo bus stop ads.

The group Backyard Skeptics has purchased several bus shelter ads throughout Orange County, two of which will be placed in Mission Viejo along Marguerite.

The ads invite discussion for doubters and nonbelievers. Text on the ads asks, "Have doubts? So do we ..."

According to the group's website, Backyard Skeptics members "enjoy spreading the word that skeptics and nonbelievers are good and moral people, and we cherish humanistic values over any supernatural superstitions."

According to the Orange County Register, some people are not happy about these ads. "I'm a Christian, and to see the Holy Bible in an ad that questions its worth—that's just not OK," said one woman. Another woman said, "If they don't want to believe in God, then they should just be quiet about it."

Comments from readers on the Mission Viejo Dispatch seemed largely dispassionate about the notion of atheist ads being placed in their city. A commenter named Pat Ruecker said, "If you have doubts, check out the faith and then make an informed decision."
