Mission Viejo Thrown Into New Political Districts

State Sen. Mimi Walters, state Assemblyman Jeff Miller and U.S. Rep. Gary Miller will face completely new voters if they run in the next election. Mission Viejo's political lines are changing, as you can see from the photos above.

Final redistricting maps approved by the 14-member, bipartisan California Citizens Redistricting Commission put Mission Viejo in a new crowd of cities. This will change the weight of Mission Viejo's votes in future elections.

State Senate District

  • Current representative: Mimi Walters (R).
  • Old district: 33.
  • New district: 36.
  • The new map goes much farther south. In the old map, Mission Viejo was right in the middle and south.
  • District 33 included Orange. The new district 36 will go south all the way to Encinitas in San Diego County.

State Assembly District

  • Current representative: Jeff Miller (R).
  • Old district: 71.
  • New district: 73.
  • District 71 extended north to Corona, Norco and west to parts of Tustin. District 71's southern border was Ortega Highway.
  • The new district 73 will include Aliso Viejo, Laguna Hills, Dana Point, San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente. Corona and Tustin will be cut from the district.

U.S. Congressional District

  • Current representative: Gary Miller (R).
  • Old district: 42.
  • New district: 45.
  • District 42 was once a long, narrow district that extended north to Whittier, La Habra, Chino and parts of Diamond Bar.
  • District 45's northern boundary now stops at the 91 freeway. It includes Irvine, Villa Park and Tustin.
