Saddleback Library Namesake No Fan of the Beatles

The old college library was named after Congressman James B. Utt in 1973. He once said the Beatles created "artificial neuroses" in the minds of young people.

new library, set to open this fall, still needs a name. The old library was named after Congressman James B. Utt of Santa Ana, and has since been nicknamed the "Butt Library," according to a recent student editorial.

All buts aside, an interesting radio interview with the late congressman has surfaced, courtesy of Dissent the Blog. In it, Utt speaks to a Dr. Burpo on the radio show The Bible Institute on the Air.

Here's what Utt had to say about the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States, a lobbying group founded by Planned Parenthood Medical Director Mary Calderone. Utt refer to the group as SIECUS:

I had a deep concern about the route that (SIECUS) appeared to be taking. That program has been put out by people cited by the Unamerican Activities Committee as communist. I just felt it had a wrong base and should not be in schools. Moreover there was a complete absence of morality or any spiritual value.

He added: The whole thrust of SIECUS was to make pornography acceptable in the parlor and the home.

Utt also said the United Nations was leading the United States down a "devious and treacherous path toward world domination" in the forward for a book called "The Fearful Master."

And, at some point, he apparently entered this into the congressional record:

The Beatles and their mimicking rock-and-rollers use the Pavlovian techniques (to) produce artificial neuroses in our young people.
