In all fairness to the rest of the commissioners, there were some with positive and encouragingRead Moreoutl ooks with hopes to get the bathrooms in place soon. Several up there sensed the need and want to see it happen. Let's hope their message gets through and let's hope for the best.

Dan, If what you say is true, "... figments of your imagination, " then why are thereRead Morecur rently nine restrooms that need cleaning twice a day?

Julia, if you are in disagreement with the imagination of the Avery gang or pulp please don't waste Read Moreyour time. They have a limited figments of imagination and perhaps they are still at the image of a hole in the ground and have not yet grasped with a view of public restrooms that need cleaning 2x a day! One must wonder do these people really think the residents are so stupid and don't need any public restrooms? Or wait, do they think we need to live in the bushes?

Birth rates. Not sure if people are outraged on it. My take on it, as I've said before, is thereRead Morei s a paradox in the world where the more developed countries that can support more people have lower birth rates, and the opposite.

@ Aricot. My plan will bring the percentage of park with restrooms to 58 % i.e. 20+9 (existing) out Read Moreof the 50 total. For example: San Clemente & Rancho Santa Margarita = 75% and Laguna Beach= 60 % Here is a list of parks that were under consideration in my plan (30 total): Tier 1: (top priority) Barcelona, Aurora, Napoli, Pacific Hills, Pavion, Crucero, Eastbrook, Pine Crest, Spendlove, Barbadanes, Sycamore and La Paws. Tier 2: (2-nd priority) Wilderness, Linda Vista, Madrid Fore, Minaya, Preciados, Camino Largo, Agean Hills, Birchwood, Castile, Castlewood, Christopher, Coronado, Minaya, Seville, Valyerno, Doria, El Dorado & La Mancha. In addition to the features already mentioned my restrooms will have high tech surveillance equipment in order to improve safety and maintenance costs.

The Republican senator questioning Clinton was trying to affix blame for the confusion over who the Read Moreattackers were ... for political gain. Clinton was focused on the confusion and how to keep it from happening again. Here is a more complete excerpt from her answer: "With all due respect, the fact is we had four dead Americans. Was it because of a protest or was it because of guys out for a walk one night who decided that they’d they go kill some Americans? What difference at this point does it make? It is our job to figure out what happened and do everything we can to prevent it from ever happening again, Senator."

Hey Pete. Doesn't comparing 'likes' to tips confuse the issue? Money has a tangible value to both Read Moretipper and tippee. Both parties realize it is the dominant medium of exchange for other things of value (food, fancy watches etc.) 'Likes' cost the tipper nothing and are of indeterminate benefit to the tippee.
Peter Schelden (Editor) September 23, 2013 at 01:05 PM
Well, I don't think it's a perfect comparison. It doesn't work on all levels. But in the way IRead Morestate d (they draw attention to the fact that the tip jar/recommend button exists), I think it's apt.

"Where are the Snowdens of yesterday?" That was the central question in Joseph Heller'sRead More& quot;Catch 22." Which means Snowden is far from being a moron. By the way, the original title of the novel was Catch 19, but then "Milo 19" came out and the editor made Heller change the title of his novel. And why don't we have the ability to italicize novel titles on the web in comments? It's the 21st century for God's sake. It's not 1993. AOL needs to get it together!

What is left out are the "undisputed facts" which tend to support one position or theRead Moreothe r. And the above comments do not actually address the issue of why Americans do not respect their elected officials; however, arguably they address why we elect persons to office, but not sufficiently to explain why we vote against our own self interests. Ignorance, perhaps?
Shripathi Kamath August 02, 2013 at 08:59 PM
Ignorance would imply not knowing the facts. To some extent that is true, but since we can learnRead Morean d we have plenty of sources available, freely, it is laziness/indifference to learning. So I'd put it down to apathy. ____________________________________________________ In order to recognize one is voting against her self-interests, people need to drop the fixation with the (R) or the (D) next to their candidate's name. I illustrated this with respect to Gary Miller -- ideological partisanship trumps everything else. There is a firm belief inculcated in people that their party represents their best interests. I blame a very inept media for this failure to educate people of the positions. Check around, see how many newspapers bother to highlight the local candidate's actual voting record and what it means. On "significant" issues such as abortion, there'll be a drumbeat. On issues like whether the guy voted for TARP and is now railing against it? Virtual silence.
