How Conservative Are You? Take the Test

Here are five things to keep you informed about Mission Viejo and Orange County for Friday, Aug. 16.

  1. How liberal are you? How conservative are you? Take the test devised by a bunch of social scientists.
  2. Want to tell the city how to invest its money? The Investment Advisory Commission is searching for bankers, treasurers, financial advisors and the like interested in serving their city. Applications must be sent in by Friday, Sept. 6 at 5 p.m.
  3. Capo Valley grad Madeline Hannah will be commended Monday by the City Council for 13 years of perfect school attendance
  4. The City Council will consider Mission Viejo's General Plan Monday. The General Plan is a guiding document that helps designate land use for the future, as well as other issues.
  5. Though it seems like yesterday to many fans, Elvis Presley died 36 years ago, on Aug. 16, 1977. His death spawned a cottage industry of impersonators, pilgrimages to Memphis and a zillion “sightings.”

Though the King of Rock ‘N Roll was closely identified with the South, where they are celebrating Elvis Week, there is a south Orange County connection as well. One of his former bodyguards, Dave Hebler, lived off and on in Mission Viejo for 20 years, and still visits the area to see friends and family.
