School Bells, Free Tennis and A SoCal Ad Genius Dies

Here are five things to keep you informed about Mission Viejo and Orange County for Tuesday, Sept. 10.

  1. Saddleback Valley Unified students head back to school Tuesday. They start a day after students enrolled in Capistrano Valley Unified schools in south Mission Viejo, whose first day was Monday.
  2. Nickelodeon and the United States Tennis Association are joining forces in Mission Viejo Sept. 22 to bring a free tennis event to town. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Marguerite Tennis Center, 27474 Casta del Sol.
  3. "Save some money save some time, save a nickel, save a dime, lower prices every time. Go see Cal!" Southland car dealer Cal Worthington, as famous for his wacky commercials as he was for building up one of the West Coast's biggest car dealerships, died Monday at age 92. And yes, he wrote all 26 lines of that famous T.V. jingle.
  4. Ever wanted to learn how to knit or crochet? Your next chance is Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Norman Murray Community, Center, 24932 Veterans Way. Learn more from Mission Viejo Patch blogger Margot Ferron.
  5. There's a new photo blog on Mission Viejo Patch, just for photos and short videos taken at Lake Mission Viejo. If you've got a great shot you want shown off to neighbors, post it here.
