Skull in Backpack, Shark Tank Star and Fear of Change

Here are five things to keep you informed about Mission Viejo and Orange County for Thursday, Aug. 22.

  1. Students held a candlelight vigil for Ladera Ranch 2013 graduate Tyler Scheurenbrand, who died after going off the edge of a mountain Friday.
  2. A former City Council candidate spoke to clear his name at this week's council meeting. Brian Skalsky said voters were misled when Rick Sandzimier claimed to have been hit by an SUV during his campaign. Skalsky also provided sheriff's investigation documents to back up his claim.
  3. Panamenian investigators think a military-style backpack found with a skull inside could contain clues to the disappearance of a South County woman.
  4. A star of the ABC reality series "Shark Tank" will visit Mission Viejo to promote his new book.
