Capistrano Coast NCL Raises Over $50,000 In Annual Fashion Show Fundraiser

The Capistrano Coast Chapter of the National Charity League (NCL) held its 14th annual Fashion Show fundraiser on March 9th at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort & Spa in Dana Point.

The elegant luncheon raised just over $50, 000 which was the most money raised in the history of the event.  The proceeds from the fundraiser help support the 29 philanthropies of the Capistrano Coast Chapter of NCL such as after-school programs, U.S. military support, food banks, and senior citizen activities.  Funds are also earmarked for college scholarships given each spring to graduating seniors in need from our community.  In addition, the NCL mothers (Patronesses) and daughters (Ticktockers) spend thousands of hours of their time serving these charities.

The NCL Class of 2017 hosted the event led by co-chairs Renee Faukner and Shelly Toole.  Countless hours were dedicated by NCL Capistrano Coast Chapter members securing sponsorship, donations, and offering behind-the-scenes support for the fundraiser.

Attendees at the sold-out event included over 400 NCL members, families, and friends in addition to ten former NCL Capistrano Coast Presidents and as well as representatives from several of the philanthropies they support including, Boys & Girls Club of Capistrano Valley, Dana Point Senior Center, Family Assistance Ministries, Heartfelt Cardiac Projects, Illumination Foundation, The Shea Center, Laura's House, McKinney Theatre, Operation Interdependence, The Philharmonic Society of Orange County,  Ronald McDonald House of Orange County, Special Camp for Special Kids, and Women Helping Women.

The Fashion Show theme was “Shop ‘til You Drop! … a day in support of our philanthropies”.  The event popped with brightly colored décor.  The use of bold spring-themed designs, including flower-filled handbag centerpieces, put everyone in a cheerful mood to enjoy the latest fashions and do some spring shopping.  The NCL Class of 2015 Ticktockers from Dana Hills, San Juan Hills,  J Serra Catholic, Mission Parish and OC School of the Arts high schools, were featured as they showed off spring fashions from Blue Eyed Girl, DNA Couture, Keren Creations, Macy’s, Rococo, Ted Baker London, and Friar Tux.  Six 2014 Ticktockers and eight male students from various high schools also modeled during the show.  The NCL models spent hours of rehearsal time with professional Fashion Show Producer, Pat Perkowski, to deliver a flawless fashion show.

This year’s three prize raffle drawing was a huge success!  Grand prize was won by NCL Capistrano Coast member, Wendy Siu, and included three nights at the fabulous Fairmont San Francisco, along with a $1500 American Express gift card.  Second Prize was a $1000 South Coast Plaza gift card and was won by Tricia Diaz.  Third prize was a $500 Nordstrom gift card and was won by Meredith Miller.

A major sponsor of the event was Jewelry by Angelo in Laguna Niguel who generously offered a beautiful diamond bangle bracelet and diamond pendant valued at $750 and $1400, respectively, for our Champagne & Diamonds Raffle.  The winner of the diamond cuff was Jill Hauk and the winner of the diamond pendant was Debby Verde, both members of NCL Capistrano Coast.

The event sponsors included Ira Hermann, Katie & William Shreve, and Wet Seal, along with many other local businesses who donated items for over 175 spectacular silent auction and opportunity drawing baskets.

National Charity League, Inc. is a mother/daughter organization dedicated to serving local philanthropies while fostering the mother/daughter relationship.  Mothers and daughters commit to a six-year program, from 7th to 12th grade, centered on community service.  The members participate in philanthropic work, educational activities, leadership development, and cultural enrichment.
