Hey Pete!

No one's deleted a politically awkward post lately.  Is everything OK?

And apropos to something else, is it still possible to embed Youtube videos in a blog post?  How about on the boards, like 'Town Square' and 'Opinion?'

And how exactly do you submit a blog post to several sites?  I know there was a memo but I missed it.

Thanks in advance, broham.  -Pan

Pan "No one's" submitted a politically awkward post lately. Give it time. I'm sure he'll be back. On the weird side: the octomom thread is gone. What the heck kind of video links did you and Tom Thumb post in the comments to get a news article deleted? Bad boys bad boys whatcha gonna do...
Panglonymous January 15, 2014 at 01:08 PM
Dan, you may be right - though he may just sow more 'fertile' patches.
Tom Thumb January 15, 2014 at 01:17 PM
Bad boy. And I was such a Brady Bunch good boy growing up.
Panglonymous January 15, 2014 at 01:19 PM
Octomom is slippery. Perhaps she just slid out of view?
Panglonymous January 15, 2014 at 03:15 PM
Yikes! Now "Why is Poverty Moving to American Suburbs?" has dematerialized! Is this America??
Panglonymous January 15, 2014 at 03:48 PM
Here's a bit of the comment stream preserved for posterity...

"Have you noticed or experienced poverty growing in the suburbs?" ~~~ Once poverty starts to grow it's too late to cure. Best just move away. ___________________________________________________ Stop with the ** handouts!!! ___________________________________________________ Obama is a puppet. Corporations and criminals run our country. No one on Wall St. was ever prosecuted. The banks are still unregulated. Wake up people, what's left of the middle class is being royally screwed into oblivion. Someone please explain how lobbyists have more power than all of the voting population put together? ___________________________________________________ Are you speaking of the Fed when you refer to giving out money to people who are not qualified when our debt mushrooms each month to the tune of an $80 billion dollar mortgage? ___________________________________________________ Because you keep voting for liberal and democrats who are for the most part communist and wish to destroy the mainstream country by enforcing things under the guise of environment and social justice. Our jobs are all gone because of the "environment" and all of sudden some of us have "too" much. Secession now....break away from the federal government if you wish to survive. ___________________________________________________ Brian N - It wasn't the "Republicans" that have been enacting social legislation since LBJ.... no, the Repubs are the "cold hearted bastards" that have wanted to be fiscally responsible, that you would be crying over in any other thread. So, for once, your "party" should take some responsibility and quit blaming the Repubs for ANYTHING you can. ___________________________________________________ Many of the people footing the bill are starting to be tapped dry and are just giving up as they start to figure out that its just easier to sit back, do nothing, and feed off the government handouts provided by the remaining middle class. Where is the incentive to work hard only to be robbed blind through stupid programs (eg: Obamacare), cronyism, wasteful government spending and corruption. Meanwhile the person who is living across from the street from you now sits home all day collecting and exploiting programs and making additional in off the books work. Meanwhile this growing new "entitled" class continues of to vote, sometimes multiple times, to keep the same morons in office who keep digging this country deeper into debt so they can continue to make a dime before the walls come crashing down. ___________________________________________________ Blame Obama. His Hope and Change campaign promise turned out to be Hoax and Chains. You Liberal tools who voted for him won't admit that he has destroyed the American Dream. B. Hussein is only carrying out the Dreams of his Father. I imagine you Liberals will be first in line for that high speed train, and jump aboard willingly when he says, "Board the trains." ___________________________________________________ it is disheartening to hear such hate filled speech. the haves have done a near perfect job of getting the have-nots to point the finger of blame on each other.
Panglonymous January 15, 2014 at 03:53 PM
I think people like D Durbin should be high on the list of who to blame. 25 years of signing legislation that brought us here. ___________________________________________________ Ever since the Republican Great Recession, this economy has been in the tank. Thanks to the recklessness of dubya and the thorough destruction of the economy, it's gonna take years to get out from the mess they created. And ever since President Obama took office, the right refuses to work with him Ito help clean up their own mess. The rightwing is just pathetic. ___________________________________________________ You idiot republicans need to stop hating on Obama and blaming him for everything!!! Did you forget that Bysh got us in this mess with those unnecessary wars!!! ___________________________________________________ This whole mess started with the housing market meltdown. People buying more house than they could afford on adjustable rate mortgages. The banks panicked, doubled the rates and people couldn't afford their mortgages for those big houses they bought. Then the credit card companies panicked. Lowered people's credit limits to basically what they owed, thereby lowering their credit rating. Companies started to panic and started laying people off. The whole housing market thing killed a lot of jobs. A lot of small companies died for one reason or another. This all began under Bush's watch, but I don't really blame any politician for this. I blame the idiots who bought more house they could afford and the credit card companies that screwed everybody. But seeing as to how we are in north Georgia, I do expect most people to blame Obama. His only fault is that he hasn't been able to fix the problem that happened on someone else's watch. ___________________________________________________ Did we just actually get asked this question? ___________________________________________________ this gutting of the middle class started with Ronnie Ray-gun and accelerayed w/ Slick Wille. Soon there will be 3 classes-the rich, well paid govt emplyees to protect the rich and suppress dissent and collect taxes and everybody else- getting some small pittance from the govt. disclaimer-I hate both parties. ___________________________________________________ It might have been nice to include the Brookings Inst. report summary by the cited fellow Elizabeth Kneebone: http://bit.ly/1m7AyRl ___________________________________________________ David don't let facts and history get in the way of your blind allegiance to your socialist many state.

FedUpRealist January 15, 2014 at 01:35 PM Why do MOST of our poor have cellphones (I-PHONES!!!), cars, flatpanel TV's, Latest version of Air Jordans,Designer clothing, gold teef, out-of-wedlock babies, and EBT cards that permit them to buy beer and cookies????....Thank You LIBERALS!!! ~~~ Poe! ___________________________________________________ D Durbin is white, last I checked. ___________________________________________________ Immigrants with degrees are more likely to end up in poverty than natives without a degree because if discrimination. You have people right here in Arlington County Department if Human Services Employment Center hating on immigrants with degrees from universities that they would never get accepted to, while helping a less qualified person gain the employment that the immigrant is more qualified for. And that is why we have plenty of unqualified people( especially in government) with work destroying organization... ___________________________________________________ D Durbin voted for both wars. ___________________________________________________ Pam, this started long before the housing market meltdown. Both R's and D's are to blame here, they are the same wolf with a different hair cut. The real scam is getting the American public as has been stated above, to get into fights with each other at which political party is responsible, meanwhile they collude in private to ensure they are the only two major parties, as they can not exist without each other, but will not suffer another real challenger to their control. Probably why there has been such a surge in Libertarianism, many are catching onto the government R or D is an uncontrollably growing monster that doesn't care what happens as long as they grow fatter. ___________________________________________________ D Durbin voted for Medicare Part D, saying it was long overdue. ___________________________________________________ Oh here's another great happening from "the tools" in congress: they sign the 2000 page obamacare bs (admittedly without reading it) AND they all opted out! God how lucky we are to be run by complete morons. Our founding fathers would be shaking their heads. ___________________________________________________ D Durbin voted for Obamacare. ___________________________________________________ D Durbin voted for the stimulus waste of 1 trillion dollars. He voted to bailout banks, AIG and the auto industry. ___________________________________________________ Mary January 15, 2014 at 01:56 PM Oh here's another great happening from "the tools" in congress: they sign the 2000 page obamacare bs (admittedly without reading it) AND they all opted out! God how lucky we are to be run by complete morons. Our founding fathers would be shaking their heads. ~~~ How's that contributed to poverty in the suburbs from the period cited (2007-2011), specifically? The founding fathers were mainly rich, white, male landowners, who formed the nation with a small fraction of the population even voting (no women, no blacks, and no poor people voting for starters). I see the desire to go back to those days, but do not see why. ___________________________________________________ It is simple, through apathy and laziness, WE have allowed OUR elected officals to work their social experiment on the inner city....they are done there after great success ( a joke)....and are now moving on to the next project.

Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free; The wretched refuse of your teeming shore, Send these, the homelss, Tempest-tossed to me............... very, very, very high hurdle. ___________________________________________________ For the past six years (6), Republicans have had control of only one half of one third of Government. With that tiny bit of power, they tried to stop the raising of our debt ceiling, then got blamed (and won the lowest approval rating ever) for "shutting down government." So as these comments seem to be all about partisan blame for our stagnant economy and jobless numbers - remember please which group has maintained absolute power to help reverse the problem for six (6) years when you cast your blame and your votes in 2014 and 2016. One commenter mentioned "critical thinking." That friends starts with ignoring ALL media, going to candidate websites, each one, and deciding if they have the right plans and mindset to earn your vote. Obama told us he would tax the highest earners and spread the wealth around. This was designed to expand the middle class. It failed. It always has, historically proven, every time it is tried. Those 1.7 million small biz owners with "S" corporations filing their corporate profits as ordinary income: when Uncle Sam (or Barry and Harry in this case) select ONLY them for extra taxation, do you really think they'll just roll over and take it? You do! Wrong. These owners worked their asses off 20 hours a day 7 days a week to get their small businesses off the ground, doing all the work themselves, until they could afford to hire their first one or two employees to help out, pay but no benefits. Then cranking out even more effort they expanded, and were able to buy health insurance for their employees and attract even more, better employees. These companies took advantage of the Bush tax cuts, bought more vehicles and equipment, hired a few more people. What happens when 1.7 million small businesses taking advantage of tax cuts hire 3 more people? 5,100,000 new jobs get created. Bam. Just like that. Small businesses have ALWAYS been the engine of recovery during recessions. But not this recession. This one has lasted years with the most disgusting real unemployment numbers in my lifetime. Why? Because small biz owners aren't hiring. They are cutting back. Doing more with fewer people. Even big companies, Staples, are cutting back part-timer work hours to avoid paying Obamacare fines. Small biz owners REFUSE to cut their standard of living. It was THEIR risk, THEIR sweat equity that allowed them a certain income level, and along comes Obama and Reid saying JUST YOU are going to get a tax increase. What do owners say? EFF YOU. Why should they reduce their standard of living? They pass it on down in the form of no new hiring, no raises, cut hours, etc. Liberals don't get it. Because they feel they DESERVE a standard of living also, though they've done absolutely nothing to actually earn it. The risk was never theirs. So it's DESERVE, it is ENVY, that lies behind our problems, one that Obama and the Dems tapped very nicely. Wake up, dopies. You deserve what the free market defines you and your labor and skills are worth, and not one penny more. ___________________________________________________ GJC - Yes, "the poor upper middle-class".... They went to school, worked for decades, and contributed to the socialist programs. Now, they are expected to pick up the load for the majority of citizens.... Do you know what happens when someone takes what you worked for to give it to another? you stop working.... Just like the whole darn country will if this communist garbage continues. You meat-sticks don't think beyond yourselves is the problem. Liberal Muppets do not know what responsibility or liberty is..... Wake up already lemmings, the cliff is fast approaching.

You are quite the archivist, Pan. There have been some odd impacts from our recent changes to the share function on Patch news stories. I think that may have done in the Octomom story, though it may have also been a redundant story. No, you can't yet share YouTube videos on blog posts (but I'm asking for that to change, so fingers crossed). So now we editors can share our content more conveniently across local Patch sites. However, that technology has not yet been rolled out to bloggers (although there are hints that this will change in the future). I hope that answers your questions.
Panglonymous January 16, 2014 at 09:45 PM
Thanks, Pete. All the best to you and yours!
Peter Schelden (Editor) January 18, 2014 at 11:03 AM
Thank you, Pan. The same to you.

Wow Pan- I'm impressed. You're better than TiVo.
Panglonymous January 19, 2014 at 10:25 PM
Thank you, Annie G, that's a distinction I've worked hard and long to achieve. :-)
Pete January 29, 2014 at 12:35 PM
Well, today seems to be my last day at Patch. Actually yesterday was. All the locks are being changed, so to speak, as I've been locked out of my editorial accounts. I just wanted to say that it has been incredibly fun working with all of you, and it would be great if crossed paths again in the future. You can reach me at pschelden@gmail.com
Shripathi Kamath January 29, 2014 at 01:28 PM
Sorry to hear that, Pete. You gave me my first break in public writing, and for that I'll always be grateful. I wish you all the best in your future. The world needs good editors, and you're no doubt one that'll be needed.
Tom Thumb January 29, 2014 at 02:16 PM

It's been a blast Pete, you set just the right tone (no mean trick.) Godspeed, brother.
