Local Non-Profit Challenges Orange County

Western Youth Services calls on the community as part of Give Local America, a new national day of giving.

ORANGE COUNTY, CA - Tuesday, May 6th marks the first annual Give Local America campaign!  Give Local America is a nation-wide day of giving and a partnership of communities and charities. This movement aims to reignite the spirit of giving across the country and support causes in the communities in which we live, work and play. This Tuesday, join local non-profits in celebrating 100 years of local philanthropy through the work of community foundations.

With over 7,000 non-profits participating, Give Local America is poised to be the single largest day of national giving. Donations are made more convenient by the ease of the giving websites; you can monitor the success of your favorite charities on the real time leaderboard which ranks charities by donations raised with the top ranking charities earning additional rewards. But don’t get too caught up in the spirit of competition- remember every gift will go directly to the community.

Spearheading the Orange County efforts is Western Youth Services (WYS), a 40 year old Orange County non-profit that provides mental health and wellness services to youth and families. In 2013 WYS provided preventative, intervention and intensive mental health services to 23,000 local youth and families. WYS is passionate about engaging with local communities through Medi-Cal out patient clinics in Anaheim, Mission Viejo, Santa Ana and Fountain Valley, and Family Resource Centers in Fullerton, Orange, La Habra, Huntington Beach, Stanton and Westminster.

From Coast to Coast, people will be coming together to "give local" through their local community foundations, charities and national partnerships. Orange County is challenged to be part of this historic event and support our underserved populations. Explore the communities that are participating, and which nonprofits you can support.
