REAL NAMES ON PATCH

Why does Patch 'encourage but not require' real names on its service? What advantages accrue from this ambiguity - and to whom?

Is it currently practical to require it?

Is it currently profitable to require it?

How much of the Patch base favors it - not in principle but in fact?

Terms of Use

'Treat others as you’d like to be treated.' Easy, right?" ___________________________________________________ Bloody hard. I just cannot get Michelle Pfeiffer to stalk me.
Panglonymous February 04, 2014 at 04:01 PM
The real Michelle Pfeiffer or the hot Michelle Pfeiffer?
Tom Thumb February 04, 2014 at 04:03 PM
I'm having a tough day at work, and I'm thinking of changing my name to globalized peasant. Is it an arduous task to legally change one's name?
Panglonymous February 04, 2014 at 04:07 PM
TT, in some countries, tattoo-on-taint is sufficient. In the US, kids'll do that on a (drunken) bet, so yes, more arduous here.

Panglonymous February 04, 2014 at 04:01 PM The real Michelle Pfeiffer or the hot Michelle Pfeiffer? ___________________________________________________ Wait, there is more than one?
Panglonymous February 04, 2014 at 04:18 PM
No, you're right, there's only the hot one.
Panglonymous February 04, 2014 at 04:18 PM
Wuh-oh. 'Don’t try to trick people'

Tom Thumb February 04, 2014 at 06:54 PM
Maybe some harsher methods need be applied to get real names: crimemuseum.org/Unusual%20Artifacts_Venetian.html
Annie G. February 04, 2014 at 06:56 PM
you don't want to know some peeps real name --what if their name was charles manson, you wouldn't buy into it anyway and if you did, damn...........you talk to him first i'll wait
Tom Thumb February 04, 2014 at 07:01 PM
I have to agree with you.
Shripathi Kamath February 04, 2014 at 07:05 PM
Bruno seems to have settled on a name. For his kid: http://youtu.be/0ofpRxc0GVg
Tom Thumb February 05, 2014 at 07:30 PM
OJ, that's funny. I wonder if her name in the workout video is Nikita? www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwrUeFiBeVE
Tom Thumb February 05, 2014 at 08:19 PM
In my dreams. Reality check: youtube.com/watch?v=NAekdzFOHI8
Panglonymous February 05, 2014 at 11:45 PM
Without looking it up, how tall would you say Bruno and his pals is?
Panglonymous February 05, 2014 at 11:46 PM
"He took clown training in Paris, at the Ecole Philippe Gaulier, studying under master-clown Philippe Gaulier. Of his former pupil, Gaulier says: 'He was a good clown, full of spirit'." -Wiki P

That's right, 6'3"! Taller than 98% of all men (by one count.)
Tom Thumb February 06, 2014 at 02:10 PM
Both Bush and The One have good sized craniums.
Panglonymous February 06, 2014 at 02:21 PM
Presidents are (roughly) like those nested Russian dolls, exactly the same but smaller and smaller until finally...?
Panglonymouse February 07, 2014 at 07:58 AM
Metaphors be with you.
Dan Avery February 08, 2014 at 10:44 PM
Panglonymous' real name is Jim. Imagine an American born guy passing himself off as an exotic sounding wise man. LOL How utterly stupid is that? ======================================== By the way, Shri, the above is being "a dick" to someone. You're an ENTIRELY different animal than man
Dan Avery February 08, 2014 at 10:46 PM
And the reason you're afraid to use your real name, Jim? Like there's what? 40,000 guys named Jim in Southern California?
Dan Avery February 08, 2014 at 10:48 PM
Shri, when women tell us we're being "a dick" to someone, you must remember just how diplomatic women are. They are underselling it every damn time. Ask Lazlo. He'll back my play here.
Panglonymous February 09, 2014 at 06:02 PM
Dan, it's a valid choice, consistent with Patch Terms of Use. Care to address the questions posed in the original post?
Dan Avery February 09, 2014 at 06:25 PM
What was the original post, Jim? Some snide, sideways response to something I wrote? And you want me to respond to that how?
Panglonymous February 09, 2014 at 07:50 PM
I can tell you, Dan, you're misapprehending it. These questions are larger than you and me and have existed since I've been on the Patch.
Annie G. February 10, 2014 at 12:29 AM
patch encourages but does not require...does that fall under that category of that guy who said---not intended to be a factual statement?? by the way annie get your gun, annie g. factual as close to it as one can GET

Heard about Obama's Assistant Sect of State, (married to a neocon), who got caught on a private line planning a coup in Ukraine. Never mind that if there is WWIII, it won't last long. Wonder is she's in favor of equal pay for equal work?
Tom Thumb February 10, 2014 at 08:36 PM
One would hope for a mutual way forward regarding this latest provocation, now in Ukraine: youtube.com/watch?v=pklr0UD9eSo

The NSA prefers it that way. And, for their record, what is your true name?
