Two Great Politicians of the 20th Century

Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher
Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher

Two of the greatest politicians of the twentieth century are Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher. Both of these individuals refused to accept the status quo of stumbling economies and provided the courageous leadership needed to promote freedom and economic growth. In addition, both also possessed the gumption to challenge the Soviet Union, and seize the moral and intellectual high ground that allowed for the West and liberal capitalism to emerge triumphant from the Cold War.

and your point would be?
A&W December 29, 2013 at 08:51 PM
Sorry, but I'm going to have to with FDR and Winston Churchill.
Gregory Raths December 30, 2013 at 10:26 AM
I can't argue with your choices, A&W.

Mr. Raths, on your campaign website you say: "Our security, our prosperity, and our liberty... what I will fight for while serving you in Washington." ___________________________________________________ How do you define American "liberty?" What are its components, if any?
Gregory Raths December 30, 2013 at 04:27 PM
Freedom to do as we wish within the laws of the land without fear of being repressed.
Panglonymous December 30, 2013 at 06:09 PM
Thank you, sir. Any current encroachments you'd push back against?
Gregory Raths December 30, 2013 at 11:57 PM
I just see our liberties slowly being chipped away at the federal level. Grant it, many laws are well intended, but there are so many unintended consequences that need to be looked at and reversed. The ACA was well intended to help the uninsured, but it is now so complicated with so many waivers and special interest pleasing. Maybe we can start over on this.

Another thing we can start over? Slavery. Phil Robertson recently described that black folks were happy before this welfare thingy. So rather than improve or change things, let's start over. Also, people whose marriages are not doing well should not work to fix 'em. They should start over. With new spouses. There is Mencius Moldbug who advocates something different though. The leading neo-reactionary of our times despises the current state of affairs. But he does not want to start over with the Constitution. Because, and it is difficult to argue with it, we'll end up with the same thing. So instead he suggests we forget the Constitution, fire all the federal workers, and start with business-CEO led fiefdoms. ___________________________________________________ At least that is a new idea

"The basic nature of constitutional government is the formalization of power, and democracy is the formalization of mob violence. Why is America's constitution democratic? Because the Puritan mob drove Charles I (who, like Louis XVI and Nicholas II, was basically just a nice guy) out of London in 1642. In a present world where mob violence is a thing of the past, we wouldn't expect to see genuine demotic opinion actually matter in the political process - much as we wouldn't expect to see feudal knights matter in a world that's invented the musket. For instance, the closest thing America has to a non-astroturf political force is the Tea Party. Which doesn't even litter. Nor does it matter, and this is not a coincidence." ___________________________________________________ You realize, Shri, that there is an MV ordinance against introducing moldbugs into the general bug population. Look what you made me do.
Shripathi Kamath January 01, 2014 at 02:55 PM
Well, it is certainly a bug to call the Tea Party as a non-astroturf force. Mencius Moldbug is probably mad, but his deliberate ideas are the culmination of his reading of really obscure political theories propounded by even more obscure authors. ________________________________________________________ And man is he long-winded! _________________________________________________________ Makes for a nice change of pace from "REPEAL OBAMACARE and ....mumble replace mumble mumble LIBERTIES mumble mumble BENGHAZI mumble mumble mumble mumble freedumbs" _________________________________________________________ Anyhoo, this is another year, and perhaps I'm better off penning an article or two on myths. This was timely, considering http://bit.ly/1cmlZH6 (Not suitable for OC Patch) ________________________________________________________ Happy New Year, everyone!
