Are Barcelona Families Prepared for Oxford?

Can Oxford and Barcelona families coexist peacefully?

According to a from June 8, students of Oxford Preparatory Academy may be sharing the campus with Barcelona Hills elementary students. This decision would bring Oxford’s 6th through 8th graders to the Barcelona K-5 campus.

Oxford Prep is a charter school that has recently been approved by Capistrano Unified School District. By law the district has to make accommodations for these students.

But this appears to be a bitter pill to swallow for some parents at Barcelona Hills. This latest development has prompted at the school board meeting and prompted over 100 comments on the aforementioned Patch article.

Animosity between Barcelona Hills parents and incoming Oxford parents seems to be building.

How will parents prepare their children for the new school year when there appears to be so much anger and resentment?

Children mimic their parents and may come to feel equally outraged if fed the wrong message about the changes coming their way. Will the kids, overhearing their parents disdain the decision, come to school with the same mindset?

Can the community come together and use this as a teachable moment for the kids? For the parents?  After all, isn't change the only guarantee in life?
