Flashback: 1984 Olympic Road Race in Mission Viejo, Were You There?

And if you were, did you take photos? The city of Mission Viejo would love a copy.

From the city of Mission Viejo:

If you were near the finish line during the 1984 Olympic Bicycle Race in Mission Viejo, the city wants your photos.

Photographs are sought of that historic race that began and ended on Olympiad (formerly O’Neill Road), just outside the entrance to Lake Mission Viejo. The cyclists raced up through the homes near Crucero Park, down Marguerite to La Paz and back up Olympiad. The men’s and women’s races took place on July 29, and Mission Viejo residents lined the route and helped staff the event.

The city is seeking photos to commemorate the 30th anniversary of that race during this year's Symphony in the Cities and Prelude in the Park event July 26 at Oso Viejo Park.

Images will be displayed during the popular community event, and a permanent display is being designed and will be installed at the existing finish line marking the Olympic Bicycle Race on Olympiad Road.

High-resolution images are sought and can be scanned and emailed to cityclerk@cityofmissionviejo.org or delivered by Friday, July 18 to the city clerk's office at City Hall, 200 Civic Center.
