Patch reader Heather Kendrella said she and her neighbor spotted a young mountain lion last night in Rancho Santa Margarita.
"We live off of Melinda Road close to Melinda Heights Elementary. My neighbor and I watched an adolescent mountain lion walk right past us on our street and go back up into the hills," she said.
Kendrella said she believes trash night had something to do with the nighttime visit. They spotted the feline around 9:45 p.m.
"My neighbor and I were sitting in the front enjoying the cool breeze and spotted it just across the street. We didn't really know what it was at first," she said. "Thought maybe it was a bobcat, but realized quickly that it had such a long tail. We watched it for a bit and hubs said it looked young. But was definitely a mountain lion."
