Public pools

Mission Viejo has two public pools. For details about each pool, see below.

Rec swimming is available from 11 a.m. to 8:15 p.m. Monday through Friday at both pools. The Sierra pool opens a half-hour earlier, so you can start rec swimming there at 10:30 a.m. on weekdays. On the weekends rec swimming is available from 10:30 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. at each location.

If you want to swim for the day, it costs $8 for adults 14 and over. For kids 13 and under, the cost is $4 per day.

Children under 4 are required to wear rubber pants, which are available for $1.

No flotation devices or toys are allowed inside the pool.

Monthly and yearly memberships are also available, but the costs vary. Two adults and their kids can swim and use the exercise equipment at both rec centers for $50 per month for Mission Viejo residents, or $550 per year. There's an enrollment fee, too. To learn more, check the membership website.

Montanoso

The Montanoso recreation center (25800 Montanoso Drive) provides a 25-yard public pool with six lanes to swim. At least two lanes are devoted to recreational swimming at the times listed below.

Sierra

The Sierra recreation center (26887 Recodo Lane) has a 25-yard pool with eight lanes for swimming and plenty of spots around the edges for lounging, including a grassy area north of the pool perfect for laying out a beach towel and getting some sun.

There's also a water slide, which is open in the summer between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.

YMCA

To use the YMCA pools, you must either buy a daily pass ($12 for adults, $5 for kids) or become a member. Membership costs $90 to enroll, then $73/month for two adults, plus all your children ages 23 and under.

You can try the Y with a free one-week guest membership.
