PHOTOS: Mission Viejo Elks Honor Police and Firefighters Across South County

Mission Viejo's Elks Lodge hosts the 2011 Law Enforcement and Firefighters Annual Appreciation Award Dinner. The awards are given to individuals who go above and beyond the call of duty to keep the community safe.

Mission Viejo's Elks Lodge hosted the 2011 Law Enforcement and Firefighters Annual Appreciation Award Ceremony. The event offered praise to those who go above and beyond the call of duty to keep the community safe.

An all-volunteer crew of Elks and high school students cooked up shrimp, steak and dessert for the celebrated police and firefighters and their families.

The evening began with the presentation of colors, which included bagpipes and a chaplain prayer. Past Exalted Ruler Dennis Keffer introduced those in attendance.

The Meritorious Service Award is given to those who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to protect and serve.

The Saturday night event was sponsored by the Elks Lodge No. 2444. It was paid for through its Wednesday night bingo, which starts every week at 6:15 p.m.
