Chris Weitz has jumped from the big screen to the small page. You can meet him and get him to sign a copy of his new book, "The Young World."

From the city of Mission Viejo:

Chris Weitz, director of The Twilight Saga: New Moon, American Pie and other hit movies, will visit Mission Viejo on July 30 to discuss his first novel for teens, The Young World.

Weitz will appear in the city's popular Writers Present program at 6 p.m. at the Mission Viejo Library, 100 Civic Center.

In The Young World, an action-packed futuristic tale of survival, a mysterious sickness wipes out most of the population, and the young survivors assemble into tightly run tribes.

Jefferson, the reluctant leader of the Washington Square tribe, and Donna, the girl he's secretly in love with, have carved out a precarious existence among the chaos. But when another tribe member discovers a clue that may hold the cure to the sickness, five teens set out on a life-altering road trip to save humankind.

The tribe exchanges gunfire with enemy gangs, escapes cults and militias, braves the wilds of the subway and Central Park...and discovers truths they could never have imagined.

Weitz will discus s his film-making career and writing and will sign books that will be available for purchase at the event.
