"Fauré's Requiem" and other works will be performed by the Saddleback Master Chorale on Sunday, June 12, at 7:00pm, at Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church, in Mission Viejo.
In the final presentation of our 48th season, we offer performances of three contrasting works, each with its own character, and each presenting its own delights to the listener. Vivaldi's "Beatus Vir" RV598 is a glorious setting of Psalm 111, intimate in scale, yet uplifting and joyful in tone. Fauré's "Cantique de Jean Racine" is a delightful masterpiece by the nineteen-year-old Fauré, deceptively simple yet with hidden complexity.
Finally, we present Fauré's magnificent Requiem - his sublime hymn of faith in eternal rest - in the smaller chamber setting rediscovered by John Rutter in the 1980's and championed by him in the years since then. If you're familiar with the Requiem in the more common setting with full orchestra, we think you'll find this version a revelation.
