Joey Sellers - Eric Dries Quartet

Joey Sellers, trombone, and Eric Dries, keyboard, are two of the most highly regarded composers arrangers and educators in the area. The evening features new original music and arrangements of  jazz standards.

 

The concert is 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the beautiful outdoor Rose Garden of the Hotel Laguna, 425 So. Coast Hwy., Laguna Beach. Cover charge is $10 and an outstanding selection of drinks and food is available for purchase. Joey Sellers is a highly regarded composer, arranger, trombonist and educator. Sellers, Director of Jazz Studies at Saddleback College, teaches improvisation, jazz ensembles, composition, and jazz history. An accomplished composer in both jazz and classical idioms, Sellers has written for Doc Severinsen, the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, symphony orchestras in Tulsa, Long Beach and San Antonio and several works commissioned by the St. Louis Brass.

Sellers freelanced for years in New York City and Los Angeles and was Assistant Professor of Jazz Studies at Northern Illinois University. Recipient of the Gil Evans Fellowship in Jazz Composition, the Sammy Nestico Award, and most recently, the Julius Hemphill Composition Award, Sellers is the only artist in history to have received all three awards.

Eric Dries teaches music at California State University Fullerton and holds a Ph.D. in Composition and M.A. in Theory from the University of California San Diego. Dries has been playing jazz professionally for over twenty-five years. Previous to moving to California, he performed with the vocal jazz group Rare Silk, appearing at the Playboy Jazz Festival and other jazz festivals in Colorado. His professional experiences in California include performances of jazz, classical, and contemporary popular music at private and commercial venues.
Mr. Dries has taught jazz piano and theory in Southern California through private studio and at the university level. He has served as guest clinician in jazz piano at the Fullerton College Jazz Festival. Mr. Dries has received awards from the National Association of Jazz Educators Conference for Outstanding Jazz Artist-Small Group and the Lower Southern California Jazz Society.
