Mission Viejo's Maggie Shipstead Announces New Novel

"Astonish Me" tells the tale of two ballerinas that risk it all when one defects from the Soviet Union.

After winning the Dylan Thomas Prize for her debut novel, Mission Viejo's Maggie Shipstead has announced her second effort, entitled "Astonish Me."

The new novel describes a love affair between two ballet dancers. A Russian dancer, Arslan Ruskov, defects from the Soviet Union with the help of Joan.

When the two fall out of love, Joan meets another and retires to raise a family in California.

"Astonish Me" is due April 8, and preorders are selling for $10.99 for Kindle and $16.41 in hardback on Amazon.com.

Maggie Shipstead was born in Mission Hospital and graduated from St. Margaret's Episcopal School in 2001.
