Pirates and Tall Ships to Invade Dana Point this Weekend

The majestic boats will sail into the harbor for the 28th annual festival on Saturday and Sunday.

Editor's Note: Laguna Niguel Patch contributing photographer Barton Mac Leod will be at the show taking photos. The pictures accompanying this story are from last year's event.

Calling all scallywags: It's time for the 28th Annual Toshiba Tall Ships Festival in Dana Point.

On Saturday and Sunday, the Ocean Institute will host the largest annual gathering of tall ships on the West Coast.

Bring the family down to the harbor to enjoy the majesty and wonder of ships that will take you back in time.

There will also be interactive living-history encampments, including blacksmiths and scrimshaw artists. And what's a show without the Port Royal Privateers to entertain and amaze guests of all ages?

Participating tall ships typically include the brig Spirit of Dana Point, Californian, Curlew, Exy Johnson, Irving Johnson, and the American Pride. But that is subject to change.

Trere's NO time to lose! In fact it may ALREADY be too late! PLEASE...tell everyone you may know that owns and operates their own Stand Up Paddleboard to effectively fill Dana Point Harbor and repell those marauders and cut-throats by using our menacing brooms, waving scary-colored Boogie-boards and hand-tossed unwanted cellular pnones in their direction. Maybe some olde-time surf-rock musicions wailing at the top of their lungs, while hysterically slappin' the hides of their bongo-drums would make the intruders think twice about their OWN safety! They might fear too much resistance when puttin' into such a threatining cove. Hey, it used to work with our Beach-Blankie-Beer-Busts back in the fifties and sixties. Well? Isn't it worth a try? Oh, BTW, we'll be needing about an additional dozen-and-a-third keggers and maybe some Dorito chips and dip for our volunteers....y'know...um, .just in case. Oh, and it's o.k.,, there's really no need to thank us...it's just the kinda guys we are...it's what we do.

The legal tender has been pillaged and the politicol plans to deal with it is addled and like shark bait. So we'll hold the doubloon and try to avoid feeding the fish.
