A fire at Saddleback College damaged classrooms Monday morning, sending one student to the hospital with "significant" burns, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Jon Muir said. Monday classes inside the business/general studies building were canceled.

A 21-year-old student was taken to the Grossman Burn Center in Santa Ana after suffering second- and third-degree burns, Muir said.

Firefighters were called at 6:39 a.m. to the BGS building. The fire was knocked down at 7:16 a.m. and completely out by 7:25 a.m., Muir said.

College spokeswoman Jennie McCue said the building was still standing, but "will be closed beyond today. We'll provide updates on our website."

School officials will spend the day identifying available classrooms in which to hold classes, she said.

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are still being investigated, Muir said.
