Cancer Survivor Opens 'Pink Ribbon Donuts' at Avery and Marguerite

Devilicious Donuts has closed shop at 28601 Marguerite. Out of the ashes comes a new donut shop with a new owner.

Pink Ribbon Donuts opened about two weeks ago after Linda So, 31, Huntington Beach, bought the business from Omar Amin.

Some of Devilicious's more outlandish creations—like roast beef, cheese and thousand island sauce on a glazed donut—are gone for good, So said.

She wants to bring some new concepts to the donut shop, like smoothies, boba and eventually light lunches, including salads.

A few wild donut styles will be kept, she said, like nutella, strawberry and banana, Hello Kitty and M&M flavors.

So named her shop after her own struggle against breast cancer. She was diagnosed at age 26.

After being treated, So dedicated herself to raising awareness about the deadly disease.

"Every day that I am cancer-free is a celebration and I wanted to celebrate each day with happiness," she said.

And So's happiest moments often involve donuts.

After 10 years in the banking industry, with prior food experience at McDonald's, Starbucks and Ruby's Diner, So wanted to work for herself.

"I finally decided I didn't want to work hard for anyone but myself," she said.

Now the new business owner is enjoying the help of her parents and sister as they install refrigerator displays, paint walls and make all the preparations necessary for a new business.

So has no employees currently, but said she plans to begin hiring soon.
