Cockroaches Briefly Close Mission Viejo Pizza Joint

A Mission Viejo pizza place has reopened after the health department shut them down for cockroach problems.

A Mission Viejo pizza place was shut down by the health department after an inspector discovered a cockroach infestation.

at 28715 Los Alisos was shuttered by a county inspector March 21, and reopened a day later.

According to the health department inspection report, "live cockroaches in different life cycles" were found in a "critical food preparation area of the facility."

In addition to this major health violation, four minor violations were noted. Those included a dry paint roller stored next to bottles in a back room, ceiling tiles damaged above the water heater and cobwebs under the hand washing sink.

The same restaurant was given an award of excellence for 2011. The pizza place changed owners Dec. 6, 2011.
