South Mission Viejo Pub Won't Open Till it's Ready

With 20 TVs and Jameson Irish Whiskey on tap, Garman's is part sports bar, part Irish pub.

It's meant to be a little bit of everything for everyone: part restaurant, part outdoor lounge, part sports bar and part Irish pub.

And Garman's Irish Pub won't open until it's just right, said owner Ryan Patrick Garman.

He's already been at work preparing the bar and restaurant for three months.

When it does open, Garman promises something for everyone. There are 20 TVs for sports fans, 19 beers on tap for beer fans, comfortable seating for families and dinner guests and a large outdoor patio.

And for the Irish (or the Irish-at-heart), there's Jameson Irish Whiskey on tap—the only such tap in Orange County, Garman says.

"It’s really my hood ornament at the end of the day," he says of the tap.

Diners, here are some of the food options being planned:

  • Corned beef
  • Lamb shanks
  • Specialty steaks

Garman said the steaks have a special seasoning. He would reveal neither what the special seasoning consists of, nor when his establishment will open.

HOURS:

  • Weekends: 11 a.m. — 1 a.m.
  • Weekdays: 11 a.m. — 11 p.m.

But the humble motto promises Garman's will be a comfortable stop for all: "It's Your Place, We Just Work Here."

Part of Garman's plan to provide a comfortable atmosphere is to separate the bar patrons from the restaurant crowd. And he promised to keep both bar customers and diners happy and safe.

Angels fans take note: this will be an official Angels bar.

If you're wondering when they open, keep an eye on garmansoc.com, a website that hasn't posted content yet, but will be the official site of the establishment.

The weekend following Valentine's Day, Garman said he'd be working on the outdoor patio, which seats 67. The patio already has a fire pit and a fountain, with hand-painted phrases from sages like Yoda.

He's putting his personal touch on everything in the place, from the patio to the tap to the sound-barrier glass separating the dining area. It has glass frosted with a Celtic band Garman designed himself.

After this reporter left, a man drove by, rolled down the window and shouted "Are they open yet?"

He'll just have to wait with the rest of us.
