Panera Bread Planning for Mission Viejo Spot

Panera and Chipotle will join Five Guys Burgers and Fries and Swensens as Mission Viejo expands its restaurant roster.

When you go out to eat in Mission Viejo, do you go out of town?

City leaders are trying to end that by drawing new restaurants to Mission Viejo. In his opening remarks as mayor, mentioned new restaurants as a way to expand local businesses.

Two of the expansions are a new Chipotle and a new Panera Bread, which will share the old Blockbuster location on Marguerite Parkway, according to the city website.

Also expected this summer is Five Guys Burgers and Fries, the popular East Coast fast food restaurant quickly expanding in California.

The venerable San Francisco-based ice cream parlor Swensen's is planning to move into the , too.

Meanwhile, a place called Club Cafe would like to open shop at La Paz and Muirlands. This opening, scheduled for 2012 if approved, would put the restaurant in a 1,575-square-foot space, according to the city website.
