Dog Bruno, Once Starving, Now Healthy and Ready for Adoption

An emaciated stray pit mix, saved from the county shelter in Orange, is now ready for adoption at The Pet Rescue Center

As some of you may remember, pit mix Bruno was severely emaciated when he was saved by The Pet Rescue Center on January 31. Bruno was a stray picked up by Orange County Animal Care, covered in ticks, and was in the medical ward due to his malnourished state.

The first week at The Pet Rescue Center he was confused, scared, lethargic, and hesitant of every move anyone made, including him. Every morning he was weighed and went for a nice long walk. I would spend quality time with him, and it was clear that cuddles were new and amazing for him. He steadily grew pound after pound. Our biggest concern for Bruno was that he might have had life-long intestinal problems. More often than not, severely emaciated pets lose weight, not from starvation, but from underlying issues. Irritable Bowel Disease was our first guess. We monitored him very closely, but his fast weight gain was a great sign. Once Bruno reached about 60 lbs., the weight gain stopped. He was officially full!  We gave him another 4-5 weeks of gaining muscle and learning some basic training.

Now after 2 months, we are pleased to say that Bruno is a happy, healthy, adoptable pit mix with no underlying issues. He has been neutered, micro-chipped, and has a clean bill of health.

Bruno has blossomed socially at The Pet Rescue Center as well. He loves meeting new people and new dog pals. He lights up over a car ride and has great manners in social settings. What puts Bruno apart from many of the other rescue pets is the “puppy” inside of him. He is curious, very silly, and has a brand new sprit about him.  Bruno is a dog that is only going to continue to flourish in a new home. He loves kids and other dogs, and he passed the cat test with flying colors. We are all anxiously awaiting the perfect family to come along. Thank you for the generosity and outpouring of love that helped him to get healthy and happy. He truly deserved it.
