The State Of The City

This is, for what it's worth, the State Of The City blog...SPOILER...we're doing great but we have no dog park still...

Look around. It's all good. All Mission Viejo's leaders have to do is not screw it up.

If you're a politician running for reelection you have to be dead stupid to try to discredit a professional theater company by lying about them. You'd have to know that a thespian will approach the microphone and completely discredit you with style and aplomb. After all, thespians are skilled at performance, they are at home in front of an audience, and they are extremely familiar with how extremely talented writers use words. I have no idea what label you'd slap onto a politician running for reelection that tries to discredit a professional theater company by lying about them twice in twenty minutes.

Whatever that label might be, you can employ it to wallpaper , because she tried to discredit the Modjeska Playhouse twice by lying about them at the December 5th Mission Viejo City Council meeting. And, sure enough, Christopher Sullivan from the Modjeska Playhouse walked up and very quietly, calmly, and concisely discredited Schlicht and exposed her as a cheap, duplicitous person; actually Sullivan didn't have to work very hard to paint that portrait.

The exchange and its outcome brought a new level of irony to the hand-lettered sign Schlicht uses to decorate her space on the council. The sign says "Better Government Through Community Participation." No doubt Sullivan's penchant for the truth is not the type of community participation Schlicht had in mind. Oddly, the lettering on Schlicht's little sign is the same lettering on those weird hand-made signs, sometimes quite inflammatory and always misleading, that appear around town at election time.

Later in the meeting Schlicht made an allegation that she couldn't prove. She wanted to deny a $600 dollar payment to Modjeska Playhouse because she claimed there was a conflict of interest. Schlicht also wanted to deny payment to a man who runs a musical program because of a conflict of interest. When asked to substantiate her allegations, her answer was "When I think there is a confict of interest, there is one."

Scary. Surreal. And we begin to understand why she tried to discredit a theater company with false information, without anticipating the professional thesbian who took the microphone and made her look an utter fool. It was probably the high point of his day.

Schlicht has made allegations she can't prove twice in the last six months. As a council member she has voted to break State Law twice in the last six months. She has a serious problem telling the truth during council meetings. In short, she has no business being on the city council. And she'll be the one to screw up our city. I promise you that.

She is only on the council because the average person votes blindly a lot of the time, especially on the local level. I used to do that. Right up until I went to a Mission Viejo City Council meeting one night. The last thing you should absolutely do is take my word for any of this. Please go to a Mission Viejo City Council meeting and see for yourself. Otherwise, we will deserve whatever fascist nightmare the Schlichts of the world inflict on us.

And that is precisely why no one seconded her nomination to be Mayor Pro-Tem.
