Health & Fitness

multiple sclerosis, a poem

soft elm leaf shade began

to reach my blanket, my feet
arched to touch shadow
thin blue lines, white notebook
paper reflects sun blinding
pen crawls, ant-like, bleeds
words onto page.

embraced by welcome heat
lake days spent writing
thin metal spiral pressing flesh
tanned from bike rides and beaches
women smiled, then looked away, water
sun sparkled diamonds, each wave
and the next one.

under elms, sunlight water
smile...wonder...each day
stretched...hope...a spent lover
danced carefree each wave
rolling inevitably sandy shores
people walk past talking
not noticing.

now is one a.m., the street
cools lies silent
Summer no longer likes me
so I hide inside stucco walls
sun diamonds on waves
bike rides, elm shadows
those distant sounds.
