10,000 Rubber Ducks to Race for Charity

Wild Rivers event is the water park's swan song. Or duck song. Whatever.

More than 10,000 yellow rubber ducks will race along Wild Rivers' Lazy River on Sunday afternoon in the 18th Annual Mighty Rubber Ducky Derby.

Sponsors of the winning birds will collect a grand prize of his-and-her Honda scooters, first prize of a Corum ladies watch, second prize of a Disneyland travel package and third prize of his-and-her beach cruisers, according to City News Service.

A Very Important Duck (V.I.D.) reception will also be held, featuring food from local restaurants, entertainment and a silent auction.

The event starts at 10 a.m., and the race is scheduled for 1 p.m. It is expected to raise $160,000 for Children's Bureau, which works to prevent child abuse.

This is the swan song for Wild Rivers, which closed to the public Sept. 25 to make way for apartments.
