Capo Valley High Grad in Libya? Facebook Reacts

What do you think of Chris Jeon, the Capistrano Valley High 2008 graduate fighting in Libya? Do you know him?

Over spring break, 21-year-old UCLA math major Chris Jeon had an idea—some would call it brave, others would call it insane.

"A sick vacation would be to come here and fight with the rebels," Jeon told a Christian Science Monitor reporter.

There isn't a lot known about Jeon yet. His Facebook page says he graduated in 2008. He apparently lives in Cypress and was born in 1990.

And depending on whom you ask, he's either a hero or a lunatic for buying a one-way ticket to Cairo, then finding his way into Libya to fight alongside the rebels attempting to oust .

Here's what Facebook friends of Jeon think. Tell us what you think below.

  • James Bovill says: Apparently Mr Jeon is known by his comrades in arms as Ahmed el-Maghrabi Saidi Barga - which roughly translates to Ahmed the lucky foreigner. Which is a pretty accurate description, when you think about it.
  • Evelyn June says: I have so much respect for you bro! Being married to a Libyan & having lived in Benghazi for 2 1/2 years, I totally understand what the Libyans are fighting for.....Hats off to you & thank you on behalf of myself & the Libyan people!!!
  • Will Martin says: You are proving life can be an adventure! Hats off to you. Good luck out there!
  • Daniel Grant says: With all this media attention, doesn't it make Chris more of a target for Gaddafi's loyal forces? I give him mad props for doing this, but he should realize the increase in danger for fighting alongside with the rebels.
