Heat Wave Heading Your Way

Temperatures are expected to spike in Mission Viejo by roughly 13 degrees by the end of the week.

Mission Viejo will get its first official heat wave of the summer courtesy of a strong high pressure system expected develop over Nevada and Utah toward the end of the week, the National Weather Service is predicting.

The week started out with mild temperatures in the mid 70s but will climb to 89 in Mission Viejo over the weekend with potential highs well into the 90s in the valleys, according to the weather service.

The hottest weather will likely occur Friday through Monday.

Authorities are warning residents planning to spend the weekend outdoors to wear sunscreen, drink lots of water and avoid leaving children or pets in parked cars for even brief periods of time.

If you are heading anywhere but the beach, watch out. Local Mountains are expected to hit the 90s while inland valleys will tip 100 degrees and the deserts are expected to range from 105 to 118.
