Mission Viejo Solar Program Extended Two Weeks

Community Solar Program pays residents to go solar through June 17, 2013

(Mission Viejo, Calif.) June 4, 2013 – The Mission Viejo Solar Program, which was slated to end on June 3 has been such a success that Sullivan Solar Power, administrator of the community solar program, has announced an extension of the program for an additional two weeks. The company extended the incentive program due to local demand from residents in the city of Mission Viejo looking to participate. Given the high level of interest in the program, it is predicted that a total of 125,000-watts will be scheduled to be installed before the program closes on June 17.

The Mission Viejo Solar Program was launched in March 2013. To date, residents have committed  to install nearly 85,316-watts of clean renewable energy in the city of Mission Viejo through the program. The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) recently approved rate increases for both Southern California Edison (SCE) and San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E) customers. The utility rate hikes will go into effect on September 1; SCE has been approved to increase their rates by 6.3 percent and SDG&E  ratepayers will see an increase of 11 percent.

"Lower energy costs and declaring energy independence is a no-brainer investment decision, the investment pays for itself in five years and roughly 15 percent return on investment year to year for the life of the system,” said Prithpal Bhogill, a Mission Viejo Solar Program participant, “I feel good being part of the green movement and I hope this motivates more and more people to get aboard the band wagon. We have a lot of sun-shine in the state of California; let’s put it to good use to secure and our upcoming generations’ future."

The program provides Mission Viejo homeowners and businesses the financial tools to go solar for no money out-of-pocket. In most cases, the monthly payments for solar power systems are much less than the electric bill that the solar power system eliminated. According to Sullivan, a homeowner with a current electric bill of $255 can eliminate their bill and go solar with a new monthly payment of $200, and will receive a Federal tax credit of nearly $8,000. After the system is installed, Mission Viejo Solar Program participant will receive a substantial cash-back payment. With the current program incentives available, property owners will receive a check up to $1,500.

The Mission Viejo Solar Program ends June 17th at 5:00 p.m. Residents who are interested in going solar can visit www.MissionViejoSolarProgram.org or call 1-800-SULLIVAN to set up a free site evaluation.
