Cool 2 be Kind and the National Association of People Against Bullying Teach Parents how to Safeguard their Children Against Bullying at School

Cool 2 Be Kind (C2BK) is sponsoring their annual Blue Ribbon week during the week of Feb 7 to Feb 14.  C2BK is a student-run club raising campus and community awareness regarding the importance of being kind and preventing bullying. C2BK began in June 2009 as a direct result of the death of Daniel Mendez who attended San Clemente High School (SCHS).

“We’re proud that our movement continues to grow,” said 16-year-old Victoria Mendez, current President of SCHS C2BK and Daniel’s sister. “We started C2BK in our high school and we already have seven more schools that have started their own clubs.” Mendez also received a letter from President Obama proclaiming "Bullying is never okay," and committing his support to ensure that schools and communities are places where all can feel safe to learn, grow and work toward achieving their dreams. 

A presentation will be conducted by the National Association of People Against Bullying (www.NAPAB.org) at San Clemente High School on Thursday, February 6 at 7 p.m. in the upper campus multi-purpose room. All parents who currently have children experiencing bullying, or are interested in knowing more about bully prevention and how to safeguard their children, are encouraged to attend. Members of NAPAB will be available to answer your questions.

Several schools in the San Clemente Family of PTAs, in addition to the Junior Women’s Club, will sponsor a canned food drive to benefit the Family Assistance Ministries. This week of events is also sponsored by the City of San Clemente, the OC Sherriff’s Department, and the San Clemente Family of PTAs, Southern California Edison, the California Teachers Association and the San Clemente Kiwanis Club.

C2BK has received commendations for their work from the Mayor of San Clemente as well as the Orange County Board of Supervisors and California State Senate.  The club also received the Ambassadors of Peace Award by the Violence Prevention Coalition of Orange County.  Contact NAPAB if your child is being bullied or C2BK to get more information on how your school can start a club.

C2BK is a student-run organization started at San Clemente High School after the untimely death of Daniel Mendez in 2009. The club focuses on providing a safe room for kids at school who are experiencing bullying. The club also works to raise awareness within the campus and community populations about the dangers of ignoring bullying and what parents and kids should do if it is happening to them.

C2BK works with the National Association of People Against Bullying NAPAB to stop violence perpetrated on students in schools and change legislation to provide the same level of safe environment afforded adults in the workplace.
