Mission Viejo Deputies Make Sure Students Have Christmas Gifts

Deputies with Mission Viejo Police Services teamed up with Target to bring holiday cheer to 15 local students between 3rd and 8th grades, sheriff's officials said Saturday.

"These children were selected by school administration as well as by the Sheriff’s School Resource Officers for showing good character, decision making skills, and academics despite dealing with difficult life circumstances." sheriff's officials said in an announcement.

A "Heroes & Helpers" grant from Target and individual donations from city and police services staff helped ensure each students received $100 Target gift cards, sheriff's officials said.

"Deputies then assisted each child in shopping for themselves and others," sheriff's officials said. "As the shopping came to a close, volunteer Target employees and city staff then helped each child wrap all of the gifts to take home."

According to the Orange County Sheriff's Department, the "Heroes & Helpers" program provides law enforcement with a unique opportunity to reward, reinforce and mentor students who are making positive decisions in the face of difficult life situations.
