Charity Golf Tournament to Benefit Animal Rescue

The Pet Rescue Center has been selected as the beneficiary of the 1st Annual Ford Petersen Charity Golf Tournament to be held Friday, November 15, 2013, at Tijeras Creek Golf Course in Rancho Santa Margarita.

Brian and Betty Petersen of Mission Viejo, established the foundation after the death of their son, Ford, in February of this year. Ford was studying veterinary medicine at UC Davis, and was passionate about animals. Ford volunteered his time with The Pet Rescue Center, and also worked at Alicia Pet Care Center (where The PRC is located).

Two weeks after Ford’s passing, Dr. Matthew Wheaton and Alicia Pet Care Center staff spayed and neutered 51 dogs and cats, at no cost to their owners, at the 1st Annual Ford Petersen Spay and Neuter Day. The February 24 event was hugely successful, and donations made in Ford’s honor went to support the programs at The Pet Rescue Center.

"Ford was a dear friend to all of us at Alicia Pet Care Center and left a lasting impression on our hearts," Wheaton, of Laguna Beach, said. "He loved helping animals and hoped to make a long-term difference by becoming a veterinarian."

The Petersen family is hoping to raise approximately $10,000 for The Pet Rescue Center through the golf tournament.  Players may still register online at www.fordpetersenfoundation.org.  Dinner and silent auction only tickets are available, and a chance to win up to $2500 is offered by purchasing helicopter drop golf balls.

The Pet Rescue Center, located inside Alicia Pet Care Center in Mission Viejo, is a 501c3 non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and re-homes pets saved from euthanasia at high-kill shelters and other at-risk situations. These pets are provided with a veterinarian-supervised, temporary sanctuary, while The Pet Rescue Center works to find an adopting family for them. Founded by Blythe and Dr. Matthew Wheaton, The Pet Rescue Center has successfully saved and adopted out more than 650 dogs and cats in the past six years. To view their adoptable pets, to volunteer, or to make a donation, please visit them online at www.thepetrescuecenter.org or call 877.277.7938.

The Ford Petersen Foundation raises funds and supports different animal causes in California. Ford loved animals, and he wanted to do anything he could to help all kinds of animals. He also loved his golf. But most importantly, he loved his friends. So, this charitable event is a time for everyone to come together to honor Ford’s memory
