Fairmont Private Schools And Ford Petersen Foundation Support The Pet Rescue Center

Students, Faculty, and Staff raise funds and collect supplies for local Animal Rescue.

The Ford Petersen Foundation, on behalf of Fairmont Private Schools in Anaheim, has donated $725 to The Pet Rescue Center.  The funds were contributed by students, faculty, and staff at the Fairmont’s Preparatory Academy and business office in support of the Foundation.

Betty Petersen, President of The Ford Petersen Foundation and Director of Admissions at Fairmont Private Schools, presented The Pet Rescue Center’s Jan Henry with the check and two car-loads of donations, collected throughout the month of March.

“We are so impressed by the efforts of the students at Fairmont Preparatory Academy. These funds will support our Rescue.Rehab.Rehome program,” explained Henry, the center’s Director of Development. “The donated food will feed dozens of animals in need through our Pet Pantry, and we will use the beds, collars, leashes, and toys for the rescued pets housed at our facility while we find them adoptive families.”

Once a month, Fairmont Preparatory Academy has “Denim Day” where students, faculty, and staff donate a minimum of $5 each to a designated cause and are allowed to wear jeans to school.  In support of raising awareness for The Pet Rescue Center, students were also encouraged to wear an ‘animal’ shirt. According to Petersen, about 70% of the student population at Fairmont Preparatory Academy is international students, so this was a learning opportunity for them as well.

Students, faculty, and staff members from Fairmont Private Schools Preparatory Academy in Anaheim spent the last month collecting items to donate to The Pet Rescue Center (The PRC). About 400 lbs of dog and cat food were delivered, along with beds, collars, leashes, toys, and student-made cat nip bags. The month-long donation drive was overseen by Anna Kunkle, Fairmont Preparatory Academy’s Community Service Coordinator.

The donated pet food will be distributed during The PRC’s next Pet Pantry on April 12. The Pet Pantry foods free dog, cat, and bird food, and cat litter for pets owned by seniors and the unemployed. Applications are available online at www.thepetrescuecenter.org/programs/community as well as during the Pet Pantry’s distribution, which is held from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on the second Saturday of each month.
