The Pet Rescue Center Receives In-Kind 9 Lives Cat Food Grant from ASPCA

The Pet Rescue Center has received an In-Kind Cat Food Grant from the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®). The Mission Viejo-based non-profit will use the cat food, made possible by 9Lives, for their Pet Pantry, a program that provides free pet food to seniors and the unemployed.

“We are very excited to receive this In-Kind grant,” explained Jan Henry, Director of Development for The Pet Rescue Center and coordinator of the Pet Pantry. “We hope to reduce pet surrenders due to financial hardship at our over-crowded shelters, which often result in euthanasia.”

The Pet Rescue Center is located at 25800 Jeronimo Rd, Suite 100, in Mission Viejo.  Pet food, cat litter, and flea treatment (when available) is distributed through the Pet Pantry to those who qualify on the second Saturday of each month, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.  The next distribution is this coming Saturday, February 8. Applications are available online at www.thepetrescuecenter.org/programs/community and inside The Pet Rescue Center during business hours.

The Pet Rescue Center also donates pet food to the Food Pantry at South County Outreach in Lake Forest, and has recently established a relationship with Age Well Senior Services in Mission Viejo to provide pet food for their seniors.

Co-founded by Blythe and Dr. Matthew Wheaton of Alicia Pet Care Center in 2007, The Pet Rescue Center saves cats and dogs from euthanasia at high-kill shelters and other at-risk situations and finds adoptive families for those pets. In addition to animal rescue, they have a successful volunteer and youth education program. The Pet Pantry is part of The Pet Rescue Center’s community outreach program.

To date, The Pet Rescue Center has saved almost 700 dogs and cats from possible euthanasia. Some of these animals needed major medical treatment, and all of the dogs and cats are spayed or neutered, micro-chipped, dewormed, flea treated, and fully vaccinated prior to being made available for adoption.

If you would like to participate by donating to The PRC’s Pet Pantry, pet food and cat litter can be dropped off at The Pet Rescue Center or you can contribute monetarily online at www.thepetrescuecenter.org/give.  Please indicate Pet Pantry on your donation. Contact Jan Henry at give@thepetrescuecenter.org for more information.
