A State Senator and Two Mayors Join Event Chairs from the Past 20 Years Reminisce- Margot Ferron

On Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014 at the Norman P. Murray Community Center, Event Chairs from the past 20 years for The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life/Mission met to reminisce, share their histories and enjoy lunch generously donated by Jersey Mikes.

We gathered in memory of Co-Event Chair 2005/06 Tricia Scott, (who lost her battle with cancer in April 2013), to take photos for our 20th anniversary.  It was monumental in so many ways- emotional, rewarding and triumphant.

Tricia Scott was a huge part of each of us and our Relay.  Her exuberant spirit and personality brightened any room.   Her family is a big part of our Relay community.  We deeply miss you, Tricia.    This why we Relay.   We are fighting for a cure for cancer.

Other event chairs present were Ashley Blair, Barbara Swanson, Amanda Bassett, Margot Ferron, Kat Minota, Steve Bell, Renee Beach, Denise Matson, Mayor Trish Kelley, Mission Viejo; Lorena Goodin and Tricia Scott’s family- Don, daughter Shae and son, Sean.

The American Cancer Society’s, Relay For Life brings communities throughout the country together to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember their loved ones lost and provide us with an opportunity to make a difference.

In fact, Mission Viejo has participated since 1994 and reached a milestone- $2 million dollars raised.   In 2013, they raised more than $175,000 and received five awards.   They are the #1 Relay in Orange County and received the National American Cancer Society’s, Terry Zahn Award for Excellence in Communications/Marketing/Publicity.    Three of these awards are given in the United States each year.

Please join us kickoff our 20th Relay on  Sat, Feb. 1, 2014 at 10 am at the Norman P. Murray Community Center, 24932 Veterans Way, Mission Viejo, CA 92691.
