Baskets of Love for Seniors–Margot Ferron

In an effort to raise money for Age Well Senior Services and Meals on Wheels of Mission Viejo, a variety of gift baskets were put together with generous donations from the community, volunteers and friends.

The gift basket ticket sales are at Norman Murray Community Center, 24932 Veterans Way, Mission Viejo, 92692 throughout November and continue through Santa’s Arrival on Sun., Dec. 1, 2013 where they will be given away at 200 Civic Center Dr, MV.   All proceeds are for Age Well Senior Services and Meals on Wheels of Mission Viejo.

More than 9 million seniors face the threat of hunger in the United States today. In fact, the U.S. Census Bureau’s estimate of seniors living in poverty is 16.1 percent of Americans 65 years and older. The economy has affected millions of older Americans who counted on retirement funds and their savings.

In fact, Age Well Senior Services and Meals on Wheels had to discontinue weekend and holiday meals due to lack of funding.   The programs budget continues to be slashed.  Forty percent of the MOWs across the country are now cutting out a day during the week.
