Beautify your yard and garden by adding succulents with grasses.  Consider planting less thirsty landscaping.  A water wise garden can be beautiful, easy and fun.

Let Keith Rattay, Mission Viejo’s, Assistant City Manager and Director of Public Services tell you how.   Rattay will speak at the Norman P.  Murray Community Center, 24932 Veterans Way, Mission Viejo, 92691 on Fri., Sept. 20, 2013 at 1 pm on the benefits of succulents and grasses.

Did you know grass front yards are banned at new developments in Las Vegas, where even the grass medians on the Strip have been replaced with synthetic turf?   In Austin, TX lawns can only be watered after sunset.   If you break the law the fine is $475 and police cruise neighborhoods just looking for running sprinklers.

Plus, some cities are offering rebates to their residents to replace front yards.  In 2009, Los Angeles began a rebate program and more than a million square feet of grass has been replaced.  Outside their City Hall is a garden of succulents. According to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, the rebate program will save 47 million galloons of water each year.
