The American Red Cross blood drive will be hosted by the City of Mission Viejo on Fri., Feb. 22 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. in City Hall’s Saddleback Room at 200 Civic Center Dr.
Mayor Pro Tem Trish Kelley, who organized the event said, “Each donation helps to save up to three lives, so it is very important to support blood drives.” According to the American Red Cross, someone in the U.S. needs blood every two seconds.
To donate blood you will have to present ID. The complete process from the time you arrive to the time you leave, will take about an hour and 15 minutes. Each donor is given a mini-physical: checking temperature, blood pressure, pulse and hemoglobin to ensure it is safe for the donor to give blood. The actual blood donation takes about 10-12 minutes.
All donors will receive a coupon for a free appetizer at Mimi’s Café and two free tickets to the Grammy Museum at LA LIVE ($5 ticket processing fee per ticket, otherwise tickets are $12.95).
The Grammy Museum is four floors of exhibits, films and interactive experiences that are educational as well as exciting. The current special exhibit is “Whitney!” which is open through May 2013.
It isn’t necessary to have an appointment, but you can schedule an appointmentby contacting Trish Kelley at 949/470-3000, by calling /1-800-733-2767 or by going online to redcrossblood.org and entering sponsor code: COMV.
