Rain or Shine: Relay For Life of Mission Viejo to Kick Off

The American Cancer Society’s, 2013 Relay for Life of Mission Viejo "In It, To Win It" Kickoff will be held on Thurs., Jan. 24 at 6 p.m. at The Norman P. Murray Community Center. 

"In It, To Win It" will get underway as event volunteers and participants rally to launch fundraising efforts for the year. The sports-themed kick-off will feature speakers from the community, Hero of Hope and cancer survivor Joelle Kearny, and Mission Viejo Mayor Rhonda Reardon.

This will be an opportunity to register a team for the overnight event scheduled on Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2 at Saddleback College.  Anyone interested in forming a team, volunteering for the event or learning more about Relay for Life is encouraged to attend.

Relay for Life, the world’s largest fundraising event mobilizes communities throughout the country to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember their loved ones lost and provide participants with an opportunity to make a difference. Families, friends, businesses, youth groups and others unite to further the American Cancer Society’s vision of creating a world with less cancer and more birthdays.

In fact, Mission Viejo has participated since 1995 and just recently was honored for reaching a milestone—$2 million dollars raised. In 2012, they raised more than $100,000. 

"In It, To Win It' is free to the public. Enjoy a night of entertainment, food, music and door prizes while honoring survivors. Boba-lish-es, Oggi’s, Jersey Mike's, Buffalo Wild Wings and Fairhaven Memorial Services have generously sponsored the event. Don’t forget to wear your favorite sports team jersey.
