"WALK  Against Drugs" and 5th  Annual Emergency Preparedness Expo – Margot Ferron

On Sat., Oct. 20 at 8 am the 24th Annual Walk Against Drugs” will commence at Mission Viejo High School, 25025 Chrisanta Dr, Mission Viejo with motivational speaker, Peanut Louie Harper, former WTA professional tennis player. 

Harper collaborated on the children's book "Inch and Miles: The Journey to Success" with legendary UCLA Coach John Wooden.  She is co-founder of “Harper for Kids.”  “Harper for Kids” provides children with educational programs, develops leadership skills and promotes healthy character development.  Also, Mission Viejo's Got Talent Winner 2012, Katherine Cotter will perform.

After “The ball is in your court...Make life a DRUG FREE sport!" rally, the crowd of more than 3,000 in red t-shirts will form a red ribbon as they trek  two miles down La Paz Rd. to the Oso Creek Trail and wind through to the Village Green at Norman P. Murray Community Center, 24932 Veterans Way.

A Community Fair and 5th Annual Emergency Preparedness Expo- "Get Prepared, Learn How!"  will follow.   Musical entertainment will be provided by Consensus Rock Band and Whiplash Kids Band.   Enjoy crafts, games, inflatables, obstacle courses and much more.  Plus, there will be activities for children with special needs.

Feast on free, Mission Viejo Rotary Club Hot Dogs, Chick-Fil-A Chicken Nuggets, Rubio's Chips & Salsa and Farrell’s Ice Cream.

Boy Scouts of America, Mission Viejo Community of Character Committee,
Harper for Kids, Mission Viejo Elk’s Bingo, Mother’s Against Drunk Drivers, Us Too Center and The Shops at Mission Viejo are just a few of the sponsors of the fair.  

Along with the fair the 5th Annual Emergency Preparedness Expo, will share information about being prepared for emergencies.  An earthquake simulator sponsored by the City and a lift truck provided by OC Public Works will be there.  Some of the agencies at the expo are Alert OC, American Red Cross, OCSD Emergency Management Bureau and Southern California Edison-San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station.

To sit in the stands and receive a free t-shirt you are encouraged to arrive at the high school at 7:30 am. The first 3,500 participants will receive free t-shirts.  The Sheriff’s Department, schools, businesses, students and families are saying "no" to drugs, alcohol and tobacco use.

**Shuttle Buses: will be available to and from Newhart Middle School to Mission High School from 7 am to 12:45 pm.
