Seniors: We Can Help You Get Where You Want To Go

The Senior Transportation Resources Workshop will help seniors, caregivers and family members navigate the many transportation choices.

One of the greatest challenges for older adults is transportation. Without safe and affordable transportation seniors are faced with a reduced quality of life and isolation. It’s more than a ride. Perhaps you want get your hair done, go to a doctor’s appointment, buy groceries or socialize. 

The Senior Transportation Resources Workshop on Fri., Oct. 19, 2-4pm at Norman Murray Community and Senior Center helped seniors, caregivers and family members navigate the many transportation choices.

Representatives from Age Well Senior Services, California Yellow Cab, City’s Dial- A Taxi, Dayle McIntosh Disabled Services Center, Jewish Federation and Family Services, Orange County Transportation Authority ACCESS (OCTA), and Orange County Taxi Cab Administration Program (OCTAP) all shared their knowledge regarding transportation.

Questions were asked of leading senior transportation service providers, too: 

Age Well Senior Services offers transportation for individuals who are 60 years old with non-emergency medical appointments in South Orange County.

Dayle McIntosh Disabled Services Center offers support resources and customized trip planning for persons with disabilities.

Orange County Transportation Authority ACCESS is a program which provides para-transit services for qualified individuals who are physically and or cognitively disabled. They aren’t able to use the OCTA fixed bus route.

Jewish Federation and Family Services offers a variety of support services through its Silver Streak Senior Transportation Program.

Other programs include: California Yellow Cab which is the city’s contractor for the Dial-a-Taxi Service. The city’s Dial-A Taxi Program offers subsidized taxi services 7-days a week, 24-hours a day to residents 80 years or older, 65 years old and disabled or 60 year olds who qualify. The Orange County Taxi Cab Administration Program (OCTAP) monitors complaints regarding non- emergency medical transportation and regulates taxi-cab companies, operations and fare structure.

The transportation workshop is free and reservations are required by calling 949/470- 3062. Just because you don’t drive, it doesn’t mean you have to stay home alone.
