One hundred years ago, the American Cancer Society began the fight against cancer. Mission Viejo is in it, to finish the fight. ACS wants to change the statistics from 2 out of 3 people surviving cancer today in the US to 3 out of 3 surviving.
Just because our 24- hour event, American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Mission Viejo is over, it doesn’t mean our fight and fundraising is. We have until August 31 to raise money.
When the year started we had three goals- be a California Purple Pacesetter, a 5 -Star Relay and raise $113,000. There was no mention or a goal set to be the #1 Relay of Orange County for 2014. It wasn’t on our minds.

We are a California Pacesetter, the only South Orange County Relay to achieve it. To be a Purple Pacesetter we need to reach other criteria. We surpassed our fundraising goals and to date we have raised $170,010.31. We are so close to monetarily passing Anaheim Hills, Relay’s 2013, #1 Relay of Orange County. They have raised $170,728.26. Each Relay has until August 31 to raise more money, so we can’t just sit by.
Let's push it. If you are at a meeting, a party or another fun-ction, pass a donation jar around. Each of us has been affected in some way or another by cancer. Remember, count our pennies and the dollars will follow. It is simple.

The challenge is on please donate $10 so we can be #1. Let’s get this fire started! We can do it. It is a healthy competition for us and bad for cancer!
Did I mention in 2014, it will be Mission Viejo’s 20th Relay for Life. What better way to celebrate, remember and fight back than to be Orange County’s #1 Relay in 2014.
