Going for Gold-Girl Scout Award- Margot Ferron

While other teens are going to the beach with friends this summer, Kate Christensen is diligently preparing to go to Bolivia to help build a school.

Christensen is working toward her Gold Star with Girl Scout Troop 219 which is the equivalent to the Boy Scouts Eagle award.

The Gold Star is the highest award Girl Scouts can earn.  It inspires them to make an impact in their community and engage others.    The project requires at least 80 hours implementing and planning.

This past week, Christensen brought together family, friends and seniors at the Norman Murray Community Center in Mission Viejo to help her color pages with animals, fruits, numbers and other objects to help complete an English picture book.

“I am going to Boliva with the group Humanitarian Experiences for Youth.  I will use these coloring pages to teach them English.”

We can’t wait to hear about Christensen’s adventure to Bolivia.   She is a junior at Capistrano Valley High School.
