Just Say No to Drugs – Margot Ferron

On Sat., Oct. 19, 2013 at 8 am the 25th Annual Walk Against Drugs” will take place at Mission Viejo High School, 25025 Chrisanta Dr, Mission Viejo, CA 92691.   Join the Sheriff’s Department, schools, businesses, students and families in saying "no" to drugs, alcohol and tobacco use.

Motivational speaker, David Wagner, a three-time, Paralympic gold medalist and the top-ranked quadriplegic tennis player in the world will kick off the rally.  Wagner is one of 38 tennis players competing in the Wheel Chair Tennis Masters Nov. 5-11, 2013 at the Marguerite Tennis Pavilion.

After “Drug Free, I can Be Superhuman rally,”  the crowd of more than 3,000 in red t-shirts will form a red ribbon as they trek two miles down La Paz Rd. to the Oso Creek Trail and wind through to the Village Green at Norman P. Murray Community Center, 24932 Veterans Way, Mission Viejo, 92691.

A Community Fair and 6th Annual Emergency Preparedness Expo- "Get Prepared, Learn How!"  will follow at the Oso Park on 24932 Veterans Way, MV 92691.  New to the event is Rock N’ Road OC, Orange County’s official kickoff to Red Ribbon Week.

This will feature a Battle of the Bands and Battle of the Banners competition.  Go to www.rocknroaddoc.info/ to register to compete.

Enjoy crafts, games, inflatables and much more.  Plus, there will be activities for children with special needs.  Feast on free, Mission Viejo Rotary Club Hot Dogs, El Toro Road, Chick-Fil-A Chicken Nuggets and Ruby’s Diner will serve rootbeer floats.

Boy Scouts of America, Mission Viejo Community of Character Committee, Mission Viejo Rotary Club, Oxford Prep, Santa Margarita Water District and The Shops at Mission Viejo are just a few of the sponsors of the fair. 

Along with the fair the 6th Annual Emergency Preparedness Expo, will share information about being prepared for emergencies.  

 The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Mission Viejo will be at the event with information and games.  Stop by their booth and learn how you can participate in their 20th Relay.  Visit them at www.mvrelay.org.

 To sit in the stands and receive a free t-shirt you are encouraged to arrive at the high school at 7:30 am. The first 3,500 participants will receive free t-shirts.
